May is Women Riders Month

Women Riders Month started in 2010, when Harley-Davidson consolidated some of its women’s outreach efforts into the month of May, declaring it Women Riders Month. While Women Riders Month may have been initiated by the iconic
brand, (which is our brand!) it’s meant to celebrate women who ride all brands of motorcycles, not just Harley-Davidson. All women riders—regardless of what make, model or type of motorcycling they enjoy—are encouraged to participate in and organize events during the month. Friday, May 4th, is International Female Ride Day, a synchronized global movement that asks women riders to get on their motorcycles and show the world that women love to ride!!

CMH-D Spring Open House – Bike Show, Spaghetti Supper, & Dessert Auction

CMH-D OPEN HOUSE - We, The BANGOR HOG CHAPTER, will also be hosting a BIKE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right people – it’s time to bring out those beautiful HARLEY’S and let them shine. There will be four categories: Best in Show, Best in Touring, Best in Sport and, of course, People’s Choice. Sign up began at the April HOG meeting and continues. The entry fee is just $10.00. The BIKE SHOW is from 12pm-2pm and it will run concurrent with the LOH BBQ which will be starting at 11am. For the evening edition, the HOG CHAPTER will be hosting a wonderful and yummy Spaghetti Dinner from 5pm-7:30pm with all the fixin’s, and dinner is only $5.00 per plate. Running concurrent with dinner is the sweetest thing ever – LOH’s DESSERT AUCTION. Bidding will start at 5pm along with dinner start time. Anyone wanting to auction their sweet tooth favorite off please let AnneMarie or Shelli know.

Dolores and I went for a nice ride through Auburn to Roy’s All Steak Burgers and Fielder’s Choice Ice Cream. There is a good spot to get the town line sign for Sabattus and Wales just east of Fielder’s Choice at a Sunoco station on Rte 9/126.

HOG Chapter Meeting Summer Schedule

Over the past several months our H.O.G. meetings have been held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the H.O.G. Pen at the Central Maine Harley-Davidson dealership in Hermon, Maine. As Spring is now upon us, the MSF Rider Safety Classes will begin on April 14th and continue on the weekends during the Spring, Summer and early Fall seasons. These classes are held in the H.O.G. Pen.

EFFECTIVE THIS MONTH AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE MONTHLY H.O.G. MEETING WILL BE ON THE THIRD THURSDAY OF THE MONTH, WHICH HAS BEEN OUR NORMAL SUMMER MEETING SCHEDULE.

The April meeting will be held on Thursday April 19, 2012 at 6:30 pm at the H.O.G. Pen. There will be no Pot Luck Supper at this first Thursday meeting.

LOH BBQ – May 19th at the CMHD Open House

Attention Ladies – it’s that time of year again! The time and date is May 19, 2012, from 11:00am – 2:00pm at CMH-D. Yes it is time for our annual LOH BBQ to help support those wonderful children and adults. The event will go towards helping to send a person to camp for a week, which is sometimes the only time they get out and away and have fun with people other than their caregivers.

Spring Safety

I was out riding during that week of warm weather. Beard flapping in the wind, sniffing the fresh air, coming up over a little knoll before making a turn onto the Goshen Rd. I see a guy at the top of the hill working in his yard. Thoughts went through my mind that I was nuch luckier than he was. Then, as I topped the hill and started making the turn I realized that he was raking the dirt off his lawn that the snowplow had left there. Guess what?? They had also left a lot of sand all over the corner I was turning on. I let off the throttle, kept off the brake, and straightened out as much as I could. Luckily nothing happened except a little puckering, but it could have turned out different.

Hey, It’s spring……be on the lookout for loose sand!

Great News! The Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce sent us a note today to get the word out to folks that the Chamber is keeping an availability list of unsold rooms around Moosehead. Rally participants can call our toll free number 888-876-2778 to get information on availability.

Bangor HOG Chapter Rides

The Chapter Rides page has been updated after todays meeting. A few scheduled rides to start with and more to come in the future. Next month we will decide what date the OPEN rides will start each Sunday.

Some terminology, from the HOG Charter, to be familiar with:

Article XVI – Operating Policies (U.S. Chapters Only)

Chapter Activities:

A. Chapters must hold a minimum of four closed events per year.

B. Closed events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members and one guest per member.

C. Member events are events that are open only to H.O.G. members.

D. Open events are those chapter events which are open to chapter members, national H.O.G. members and other guests as desired.

Any members who would like to go out and dust off the cobwebs before attending a larger group ride can contact me at bangorhogweb@earthlink.net and I will make arrangements for a smaller venue to meet your needs.
